About Me

Film and informal education can create change.
Nathan Williams is an informal educator and an award winning filmmaker. Over the past 8 years Nathan’s career has developed into 2 main strands, ‘Specialist Informal Education’ and ‘Film Production’. In 2017 Nathan worked on Channel 4 & Arts Council England’s “Random Acts” - acting as an Executive Producer, Creative Producer, Assistant Director and Film Mentor to young filmmakers between 16-24 years old.

Outside of his educational pursuits, Nathan produces and directors comedy shorts and horror films. “Time Lapse” won the Ruby Award at the Los Angeles Horror Competition 2017 & officially selected for the LA Horror Film Festival 2017 & Lost Sanity Horror & Sci-Fiction Film Festival 2017. Nathan’s comedy web series pilot “The Colour of Dead” was shortlisted for BEST PILOT at Raindance Film Festival 2014.

For a large part of Nathan’s career, he worked for Rural Media: an award-winning media charity that uses film to produce high-impact media work which strengthens rural communities. Through participatory arts work, Rural Media has produced projects for Big Lottery, Into Film, BFI, Heritage Lottery Fund and many other funders. The work Nathan does usually involves facilitating young people and communities to find empowerment and development through media and film training.

Nathan eventually went on to Project Manage Rural Media’s BFI (British Film Institute) Film Academy for 2 consecutive years as well mentoring over 70 young people and helped them gain bronze, silver and gold Arts Awards as well as acting as an Assessor for NCFE qualification in “Preparing to Work in the Film Industry”. Since joining the company in 2011, Nathan has contributed to over 1000 short fictional films and documentaries and worked with over 3000 young people.

Nathan’s youth work and educational film background has lead him to pursue a Life Coaching qualification and he is currently writing his first self-help book for young filmmakers.
